Pelvic compression devices are designed to wrap around the hips and apply circumferential pressure to stabilize the pelvic ring and help reduce bleeding after a suspected pelvic fracture. A pelvic binder, the T-Pod pelvic stabilization device, and the SAM pelvic sling II are all built to encircle the pelvis and provide this targeted compression. An ankle binder, however, is intended for immobilizing or securing the ankle or lower leg, not for the pelvis. It doesn’t produce the necessary pelvic stabilization or hemorrhage control, and its placement wouldn’t effectively stabilize the pelvic ring. So the item that is not a pelvic compression device is the ankle binder.
